A security mirror serving two functions
Security mirrors serve to offer visibility to many businesses and offices to aid in not only in theft prevention and detection, but also in the prevention of dangerous traffic accidents, whether foot traffic or vehicle traffic. However, these mirrors can also serve to conceal another security measure often used by businesses – security cameras.
Many security mirrors used by businesses and offices are the typical dome mirrors which are convex in shape and affixed high on a wall or in a corner. While these mirrors obviously grant the viewer a larger range of visibility, they may also be concealing a security camera behind the mirror which can serve the business with a back-up measure, should the mirror’s primary function as a deterrent fail. Some of these mirrors are specifically designed to allow just enough visibility for a curious person to see “into” the mirror to notice the security camera, which may serve as a secondary deterrent.
Some larger spaces, such as loading docks and warehouses which may have a larger volume of traffic, especially by non-employees, utilize a mirrored sphere. These spheres hang from a ceiling much like a pendant and can be placed so as to offer a wide range of visibility from almost every angle imaginable. Most are also equipped to be able to install security cameras. Like some traditional mirrors, some are designed to allow just enough sight “through” the mirror to be able to see inside the sphere. Thus, the better quality spheres are also designed to allow for a security camera to be mounted inside.
Mounting a camera inside is a wise choice, but it need not be a costly one. There are a wide variety of fake security cameras which are designed to look like real working cameras, but at a fraction of the cost. Investing in a fake security camera to place inside or behind a security camera is a practical choice for those who want to add a little bit more security to their existing system.
With a little thought and preplanning, adding a security mirror, with or without a camera is an effective way to help reduce crime and reduce accidents. Whatever your primary reason for investing in a mirror, consider adding an inexpensive fake camera behind or within it to give the sense of a strong security presence.
